At the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2026, British yacht builder Fairline premiered the Targa 58 GTO luxury motor yacht to global press and buyers. It may not have been the largest boat at the show, but it attracted considerable attention for what Fairline describes as a new vision for the Targa range.
The bold, contemporary design of the Targa series has defined luxury open-air boating for more than two decades, giving owners the freedom to embrace exhilarating exploration and long-range cruising in comfort. Conceptualised and engineered by Fairline’s in-house design team in collaboration with J&J Naval Architects, the new Targa 58 GTO draws on decades of expertise in creating an exceptional owner-driven yachting experience.

As Fairline prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2027, the milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on the foundations of the brand and what they mean for its future. In 1967, founder Jack Newington launched the Fairline 19, a river cruiser that combined handcrafted design with the latest fibreglass boat construction techniques. Nearly six decades of refining engineering, technology, design and craftsmanship have shaped the current range of 10 models, each embodying a distinctive sense of adventure and enjoyment that is unmistakably Fairline. From the outset, the brand has focused on owners who want to feel close to the water while enjoying the functionality, refinement and comfort of a luxury yacht.

A new vision for owner-driven adventures
Every day on the water brings new possibilities: sunrise departures, secluded coves and long lunches at anchor, lively evenings with friends and peaceful weekend escapes. Understanding that owners prioritise precision, performance and adventure, Fairline places these qualities at the heart of every design brief. The Targa 58 GTO promises a versatile layout, with social spaces that adapt to accommodate guests and a deck designed for entertaining as effortlessly as it facilitates time spent swimming and enjoying the water. But how does the latest model deliver on that promise?
An impressive hydraulic door system transforms the Targa 58 GTO’s upper deck from an enclosed cruiser into an open-air entertainment space in moments. At the touch of a button, the entire aft wall of the saloon opens onto the cockpit, allowing the two spaces to function as one expansive social environment. Fold-down balconies extend the cockpit deck by more than 40 per cent, creating additional room for gatherings and relaxation. Below deck, a standing-height tender garage makes launching a paddleboard or dinghy easier and more convenient. Volvo IPS propulsion, integrated beneath the hull, supports quiet, efficient passage-making – a benefit particularly appreciated by the person at the helm. Together, these considered details demonstrate Fairline’s understanding of how owners want to experience life on the water, with intelligent engineering serving both practical needs and the pleasure of being afloat.

Decades of British craftsmanship
Remarkably, Fairline yachts continue to be built in Britain at the brand’s original site in Oundle, Northamptonshire, where the first Fairline 19 was produced. These roots remain central to the brand’s identity. Nearly six decades of accumulated knowledge inform the evolution of every model, while Fairline’s craftsmanship has continued to develop and mature over the years. Carefully worked timber, hand-lacquered and polished finishes, flowing curves, distinctive fluting and intricate marquetry are among the details that reward closer inspection.
The brand’s history has also been marked by significant milestones and achievements. In 1986, a Queen’s Award for Export Achievement recognised Fairline’s contribution to the UK economy. In 2003, the 10,000th Fairline yacht, a Squadron 65, left the yard. The collection of trophies displayed at the Oundle factory reflects further recognition of the brand’s achievements, including awards for interior and exterior design and success in the Superboats category at the 2020 Motorboat of the Year Awards.
With the Targa 58 GTO making its debut and anniversary celebrations planned for 2027, Fairline is entering its next chapter with a clear focus on the future. An established name in British yacht building, the brand continues to evolve while remaining true to the principles that have shaped its identity. ‘Heritage Engineered for Tomorrow’ captures this approach: a legacy of craftsmanship, innovation and owner-focused design, carried forward into a new generation of yachts. For discerning yacht owners seeking a distinctive blend of performance, sophistication and freedom on the water, the Targa 58 GTO offers an enticing glimpse of what comes next.
